The Executive Academic title highlights my expertise as a seasoned senior academic, researcher, and entrepreneur having earned my doctorate (Ph.D.) in Environmental Chemistry, where my research studies focused on renewable energy systems, at the University of the Western Cape, South Africa (2012). I had previously obtained in Nigeria, a Master’s degree (MSc) in Industrial Chemistry at the University of Ibadan (2001) and a Bachelor’s Degree (BSc. Ed (Hons)) in Chemistry from the Obafemi Awolowo University (1997).
I have two decades of teaching and research experience across the three major domains of tertiary education having lectured in a foremost College of Education in Nigeria, the University of the Western Cape, and the Cape Peninsula University of Technology in Cape Town, South Africa. My research has predominantly focused on renewable and sustainable energy studies, specifically- biodiesel catalytic systems. My research aims to find solutions for sustainable development with a focus on environmental sustainability, waste beneficiation, bioenergy for the green economy, and environmental engineering. This has been achievable to some extent via collaborative projects and industry partnerships.
I am an author, with some books and book contributions to my name. I have also been privileged to publish in numerous journals with a high citation index, and possess an impressive publication profile across the board. I consider myself a thought leader and have been opportune to speak at an SA-FM radio interview as a climate reality leader to discuss my views on how converting waste to biofuels for low carbon energy could impact the transition to a green economy. I have also had the honor to speak at various invited speaking engagements, on the international scene and have made top academic presentations at both local and international conferences.
I have been a beneficiary of various South African scholarships and fellowships; and was featured in a South African Newspaper in 2015, where my Ph.D. research group-The Environmental and Nano Sciences Group (ENS) won the popular Women in Science Award (WISA) due to collaborative groundbreaking research, demonstrating that women can achieve MERIT in Science.
A particular achievement of mention, occurred in 2014 when I was selected as the only African resource person to present/teach at the Nanoscience workshop on Equity and Equality of Nanotechnology at the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, the USA, organized by a group of American professors and funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). This feat has led me to explore and facilitate more academic collaborations between higher institutions in various capacities in my career.
I believe my job as an academic transcends the spheres of teaching, research, and community engagement, as I am invested in developing the intellectual capacity development of young individuals by using education to impact them to achieve their full potentials. I love the academic enterprise and I am very passionate about students excelling academically, which has led me to establish a higher education consulting agency where I offer my skills and expertise as a mentor, speaker, and consultant.
In my free time, I love to read, travel, relax and experience new cultures. In the nearest future, I aspire to launch a non-profit that would pull in human and financial resources aimed to empower financially disadvantaged higher education students to achieve their desired educational goals.
